Factory
Shao Xing Gold Sun Textile Co. ltd is one of the largest textile companies and the only company who has passed SGS audit that produces permanent flame retardant and anti-static blankets.
A duvet is a quilted blanket filled with a natural or synthetic filling — such as down or down-alternative — that is protected by an interchangeable cover. Unlike a comforter, its unique pillow-like structure traps heat without weighing you down.
A duvet is a top layer of bedding that looks decorative and keeps the sleeper warm and snug. The word “duvet” is a French word, meaning “down”—it refers to the feather-like substance from geese and ducks.
Down is the area beneath the outer covering of feathers, usually closest to the belly of geese or ducks. It is very light and fluffy and is an effective thermal insulator— a perfect filling for a duvet. The fill power determines the weight and warmth of a duvet.
Benefits of Duvet
Warmth
One of the main benefits of down duvets like the Rest Original Duvet is their ability to keep you warm. Down is an excellent insulator, and a down duvet will provide warmth on even the coldest nights. Unlike synthetic materials, down is able to trap air and create pockets of warmth, which makes it an ideal choice for bedding.
Softness
In addition to its warmth, a down duvet is also incredibly soft and comfortable. The softness of down is noticeable when compared to synthetic materials, which can often feel rough or scratchy. This makes a down duvet a luxurious and enjoyable choice for bedding.
Warmth and comfor
Despite its warmth and comfort, a down duvet is usually quite lightweight. This means that it will provide insulation without feeling heavy, and it will be easy to move and adjust. This is a significant advantage over heavy synthetic duvets, which can be difficult to manage and may cause discomfort during sleep.
Their durability
Another benefit of down duvets is their durability. Down is a highly durable material, and a well-made down duvet can last for many years. Down has a natural resilience that allows it to bounce back and maintain its shape, even after repeated washing and use. This makes a down duvet a long-lasting and cost-effective investment.
The Difference Between a Duvet and a Quilt
Comfort
Duvets tend to be fluffier and warmer compared to comforters thanks to their high quality down or down alternative fill. Comforters tend to be much flatter with lower quality insulation and may require an additional blanket during colder months.
Weight
Duvets are typically made in specific weights for different levels of warmth, whereas comforters are made with design aesthetics in mind. Most comforters are not filled with high quality down and may vary in weight (and warmth) depending on the chosen fill.
Maintenance
Duvet inserts do not need to be washed often as their cover. This makes routinely washing your bedding much easier. Comforters must be washed more often, as they don’t have a cover, and can wear easily when washed. Having a duvet cover greatly simplifies washing and caring for your bedding.
Style
Some choose comforters over duvets because they might match their current design aesthetic. However, comforters don’t have an outer cover to easily change, which leaves you stuck with the design of the comforter you’ve chosen. Duvets are far superior in style and function as they are traditionally white and require a cover. Duvet covers can be updated seasonally or as often as you’d like giving you the perfect way to switch up the style of your bedding.
The next step is learning how a duvet cover works. Duvets slip easily inside the removable cover, a bit like a bed pillow in a pillowcase. Snaps, buttons, or ties inside the case keep the duvet in place to create one secure blanket.
The duvet cover has three main purposes: design, comfort, and convenience. For example, imagine shifting from your fall bedding to your holiday bedding without putting the whole comforter away. Duvet covers are easily swapped out to match the changing style of your room.
The duvet cover material also provides comfort variety. Break out the soft flannel on a cold January day and swap it out for lighter cotton when spring arrives.
Lastly, duvet covers help protect your duvet from rips, stains, and general wear. While you still need to wash your duvet, you can do it less often because of the cover.

Type of Duvet
Down duvets
Duvets filled with ethically sourced goose or duck down are naturally breathable and reduce the moisture trapped in our bedding as we sleep. We recommend Hungarian goose down duvets for night sweats. Goose down provides three to four times more air circulation than synthetic materials allowing moisture to escape more easily, resulting in a cooling duvet.
Wool duvets
Wool filled duvets are another breathable choice for night sweats. Wool helps to regulate your body temperature as it wicks moisture away from your body as you sleep. Wool duvets can absorb up to 30% of their weight in moisture, which is good for stopping you feeling hot and sticky but also results in your duvet becoming quite a lot heavier during the night, which may unfortunately decrease your comfort as you sleep.
Silk duvets
Silk is another lightweight duvet filling. It is hypoallergenic, soothing for sensitive skin and provides good temperature regulation. However, a silk duvet can feel a bit flat and doesn’t provide that wrap around body contouring feel you get with other duvet fillings. Silk can be both machine washed and tumble dried, but it can lose its natural properties if over-washed.
Consider Finish and Texture When Choosing a Duvet
All of our duvet covers are made with premium materials for superior softness, but each fabric features a distinct texture to meet various comfort preferences and offers a different finish to create an aesthetic that suits your space.
Dress up your dorm room bed or bring a carefree touch to the main bedroom with relaxed duvet fabrics. A cotton jersey knit duvet cover offers the worn-in appeal of a beloved t-shirt, while linen’s natural slub texture imparts an informal aesthetic to the bed.
Decide what kind of elevated look you desire: Cotton sateen, and other fabrics with a subtle sheen bring a lustrous touch to the bed, while crisp, matte cotton percale offers a look more in line with sumptuous hotel bedding.
Choose a material that looks and feels seasonally appropriate. Cotton seersucker instantly signals breezy summer vibes, while a warm flannel duvet cover is a classic choice for cozy comfort during cold winter nights.
Consider prints, patterns, and colors and choose a duvet cover that coordinates with your walls, other bedding, and furniture. Classic stripes, beautiful botanicals, and festive plaids suit many types of spaces, while neutral hues may suit multi-use spaces such as a guest room that doubles as a home office.
How to Put on a Duvet Cover
The rolling trick
One method to change a duvet involves creating what some have nicknamed a “Duvet Swiss Roll.” Start off by laying the duvet cover flat on the bed and position the duvet on top, making sure the corners are aligned.
Next, open the end of the duvet cover and insert the rolled tube inside while turning the cover inside out. Then simply unroll the duvet.
The “inside out” method
Another way to get your cover on easily? Turn it inside out, put your hands all the way in to the end of the cover so your arms are all the way inside, then place one hand in each corner so they are covered like mittens. Use your hands to grab the end corners of the blanket. Holding those corners, shake until the blanket has disappeared into the cover.
The binder clip hack
Instead of wrestling your comforter into its pretty duvet cover, enlist the help of binder clips. Shake out the whole thing — the comforter will fill in evenly — and remove the clips. If the insert bunches up at night, consider securing the corners with safety pins. “They’re discreet, so you can leave them in.”
The partner method
“One person can handle the left corner of the duvet while lining it up with the left corner of the cover, and the other person can do the same with the right corners. Once they’re aligned, both people can hold the duvet and cover in place and give them a little shake to help the duvet settle evenly inside.” The teamwork makes the process a breeze, so you can get in done in half the time.
Step 1. Extract the cover from your duvet. Assess its condition: is the item clean or littered with stains?
If the latter is your case, pre-treat those smears before throwing your duvet cover inside a dryer or washing machine. (almost every duvet cover is machine washable, so no worries!)
Step 2. Do not use powdered detergent or fabric softeners. Use gentle, milder options. Also, it would be best to wash it by itself or with other thin sheet sets/fabrics (rather than mixing the item with thick clothes).
Step 3. Stay far from hot water. Some believe hot water is the best weapon against germs; but in fact, warm water also has the same effect without damaging the corner ties.
Step 4. Tumble dry. After the washing cycle ends, pull the linen duvet cover out of your dryer immediately.
Step 5. Use the duvet cover as a standalone piece or return it to your duvet insert.
